The multi-annual cultural funding of the City of Graz

CURRENT

The final report of the evaluation of cultural funding in the City of Graz has been completed. The results, which are characterised by the current crises, were presented to the City Councillor for Culture, the Department of Culture, the Cultural Advisory Council and the Cultural Committee and discussed together. We are pleased about the interest and hope that the findings will be useful for further development within the framework of the cultural strategy process.

The multi-annual cultural funding of the City of Graz

External evaluation with a focus on qualitative social science methods and integrated consulting for the city of Graz

Research Design:

The aim of the evaluation is to obtain a comprehensive picture of Graz’s cultural promotion policy. For this purpose, firstly, the developments of Graz’s cultural funding policy in general are investigated. Secondly, it is of scientific interest to shed light on the developments of the respective sectors within Graz’s cultural funding policy, as well as its funding recipients. The aim is to develop cultural policy recommendations based on the empirical findings.

Methodological approach:

The methodological data collection is qualitatively oriented and includes individual interviews, focus rounds and working discussions. In addition, the empirical data is supported by a theoretical document analysis of provided texts and documents. The collected theoretical as well as empirical data will be analysed and triangulated with each other using qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz (2018) and situation analysis according to Clarke (2012). A final report with a synopsis of the results including recommendations for action for the cultural funding policy of Graz will be published.
