House of New Music in Vienna
Needs Assessment
In recent years, the music scene in Austria has increasingly been discussing spaces and venues for new music. The fundamental need for more publicity and visibility of the new music scene has led, among other things, to thinking about a separate house for new nusic. mica – music austria has already developed a concept for this, which is now to be tested for its feasibility. Although the new music scene in Austria is not very large, there is a lack of detailed knowledge about the needs and potentials.
This knowledge is now to be generated in the course of concept development. The work of the independent new music scene encompasses contemporary, experimental sound creation in all its diversity. This ranges from music, music theatre and performance to sound art and acoustic research, transacoustics and radio art etc. Whether improvised or notated pieces, whether vocal or instrumental, analogue or digital, new music can be anything, even that which was previously unheard.
The main aim of accompanying EDUCULT is therefore to provide evidence-based support in the development of the concept.
Method
Both quantitative and qualitative methods are used to integrate different perspectives of the relevant groups of actors into the processes. The multi-method approach with a process- and communication-oriented approach (including qualitative survey methodology, online survey, guideline-based research interviews, processing of already existing data) ensures that different perspectives can find their way into the analysis.
