Cultural Education in Schools in Krems
Survey and Action Plan for the promotion of Cultural Education in Schools in Krems
Evaluation design
Due to new requirements resulting from digital change, social inclusion and a changed understanding of the reception of art and culture, there is a need for a well-established interaction between educational and service institutions and the respective target groups. We see culture and the social debate and participation in it as an important anchor for democratic processes and participation – especially in times of crisis. The aim of this research project is to identify the existing cooperation and unrealized potential of schools and cultural education programs for students. In addition, there is a need to make visible already existing offers that could be of interest for schools. The present overall design provides for a comprehensive needs and potential analysis of the structure of cultural education in Krems. By surveying the existing structures in the field of cultural education in Krems and existing offers for schools, a comparative analysis and a comparison with existing needs will be made. The diversity of the different schools and students will be taken into account. A top-down as well as a bottom-up approach will be used, as different perspectives will be included in the survey. In addition, existing documents will be researched.
Methodology:
For the methodological implementation, the perspectives of actors from culture and education and the school are collected in different sub-steps. The first methodological step is a document and secondary data analysis, which creates the necessary basis for the empirical data collection. The empirical data collection consists of several sub-steps. On the one hand, interviews with teachers, school administrators and urban actors from the field of education and culture will take place. On the other hand, in the sense of a participatory research understanding, the voices of students will be included through workshops initiated by EDUCULT. Third, the qualitatively collected data will be triangulated by means of a quantitative online survey sent out to all schools in Krems. The goal of the survey is to determine which forms of support are needed to better anchor cultural education in schools in Krems as well as which cultural education projects can currently be used by schools. For this purpose, a guideline with existing offers is to be developed, which can be used by the schools, as well as an action plan with recommendations for the client – the cultural office.
