Kulturkita Hessen
Evaluation of a pilot project to promote kindergartens as places for early childhood arts education and participation
Kulturkita Hessen is a state-wide model project for the promotion of early childhood cultural education and participation. EDUCULT accompanies the program in the first funding period (2024-2026) in the form of process-based evaluation results (formative evaluation) and an ex-post evaluation (summative evaluation).
On the basis of an impact model of the model project, the results obtained are contextualized and their effects justified. The evaluation takes place at the level of structural, process and contextual quality and provides insights into the quality of results. This makes it possible to include different prerequisites and framework conditions of the daycare centers and other actors (educational and cultural actors) in the analysis.
After an initial exploration phase, which is concluded with the final evaluation concept, the data collection phase begins. A triangulation of qualitative data collection methods allows the evaluation questions to be answered from multiple perspectives. To this end, guided narrative interviews and group discussions are conducted with key players in the model project. Case studies will be created for further in-depth analysis, in which methods of the Mosaic Approach to research with young children will be used and phenomenological vignettes will be created. The validation of the results takes place on the one hand via ongoing jour fixe meetings with the program management and selective cooperation with experts in the field and on the other hand in validation workshops to discuss and further develop results.
Kulturkita Hessen is a program of the Deutsche Kinder- und Jugendstiftung (DKJS), initiated and funded by the Crespo Foundation, in cooperation with the Netzwerk Frühkindliche Kulturelle Bildung (NFKB). The funding partner is the Hessian Ministry of Labor, Integration, Youth and Social Affairs (HMSI).
