Abstract
The aim of the project “Ruhratlas Arts Education” is to study the connection of resource input and praxis output. Together with EDUCULT, the Stiftung Mercator wants to contribute to the development of quality in the field.
The project is connected to the EDUCULT European Arts Education Fact Finding Mission and the project “mapping // kulturelle-bildung” by the German Centre for Culture Research. The latter looks into the resources for arts and cultural education and their structural contexts in four German federal states.
With the “Ruhratlas”, EDUCULT takes these approaches down to the local level. We look into the connection between resource input, organisational structures and quality output in the Ruhr region in detail, based on 12 case studies.
The research project will thus generate recommendations on how to reliably and effectively implement arts and cultural education in the education system.
Approach
The project combines qualitative and quantitative methods. The Centre for Culture Research collects data on the resource input. EDUCULT analyses the output based on qualitative methods on different levels. Our main target groups are policymakers, teachers, artists, arts educators and participants.
The project is dialogue-oriented in all ist aspects. Therefore, local experts will be involved at all stages. 4 developer workshops will deliver insights on the existing structures and current activities based on the perspective of the people involved. This enables a first assessment of trends in the context of quality development.
In 12 selected case studies (projects along different art forms, target groups, institutional contexts) we will intensify the dialogue with the participants and organisers. We will analyse the structures and conditions of selected projects in terms of quality. We will not rate the projects but generate the specific perspectives and insights of those involved – their quality criteria.
