Slow Touring
Project Evaluation on Slow Concert Touring in Europe
The Goethe Institute’s ‘Slow Touring’ is a pilot project that aims to promote sustainable traveling in concert touring. In particular, this project includes the concert tour of Berlin-based artist LIE NING, who will be traveling with a group of artists by train and ferry to the Netherlands, France, Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Belgium between September and October 2024. Goethe- Institut Ireland, who also developed the idea, is coordinating the project, along with the support of the Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and London/Manchester branches of the Institut.
By slowing down when travelling and while at the venues, Slow Touring is intended to contribute to a more positive environmental balance as well as to more intensive experiences and cultural exchange via stronger local participation. It also aims to inspire other sustainable cross-border initiatives in the arts, contributing to a more sustainable future in Europe.
The methodological approach is based on a Theory of Change. Documents analysis and interviews with project team, local partners, participating Goethe-Institutes, as well as with the artists will be the methods used to gather data for the evaluation. The report will summarize the evaluation results and deliver recommendations for further development of the Slow Touring approach.
