CURRENT

The survey for artists, audiences and organisers of the independent performing arts in Austria has been completed. They were asked what the future of the independent scene could look like, what it would take to be able to play, participate and organise again - and what changes would be sensible and necessary. The results were published here.

Structures, transformation and future of the independent performing arts

Austrian Survey

The first year of the COVID-19 pandemic has shown how fragile the structures of the independent performing arts are. The economic situation of some actors is disastrous, and the fact that it is not possible to perform, or only to a limited extent, is the great challenge for the artists’ self-image.

However, the study does not focus on the question of what was, but on how it can become. Together with the IG Freie Theaterarbeit, artists, audiences and organisers will be asked what it takes for theatre to take place and for artists to enter into an exchange with their audiences.
