Educational programs offered by the Austrian cultural sector
Abstract
The focus of the Austrian ministry of education, culture and the arts regarding educational programs for children and youth resulted in more offers of cultural institutions. In this context the current minister claims that every school should take the chance to collaborate with a cultural institution or initiative. But what programs and approaches are available for schools? A systematic overview of the hitherto existing offers of the cultural sector, its projects and activities has yet to be developed.
The study aims at the development of such a first overview of educational programs that are offered for schools. The data collection will be carried out alongside a priori defined criteria in order to allow for a systematic description over different art fields, ownerships and regions.
In terms of activating research we will not only collect data on existing programs but also explore the willingness of cultural institutions to collaborate with schools in the future.
Approach
Main instrument is a questionnaire with qualitative and quantitative elements. In addition we will conduct expert interviews with representatives of the cultural and the education sector. Both, providers (mediators, representatives of cultural institutions …) and users (headmasters, Kulturkontaktpersonen …) will be interviewed as well as institutions and initiatives which do not currently offer educational programs.
