On 6 March the award ceremony of the multilingual speech competition took place in the city hall of Vienna. More than 300 guests from politics, business and media celebrated the courageous youngsters together with their friends and families and valued the multilingual talent. This year’s topic was: "Word up: We join the conversation!" More than 407 pupils from all over Austria applied for the fifth competition, presenting their speeches in 39 different languages.
Since 2009/10 EDUCULT and “Wirtschaft für Integration” organise the multilingual rethoric contest “Sag’s Multi!”. Children and young people from the 7th school grade whose first language is not German, are invited to register.
The topic for this year is: “Word up: We join the conversation!”
The competition is split into three categories according to the school grades. Each participant has to present a speech switching between the first language and German. They have to convince the jury of their language skills. At least one member of the jury is a native speaker of the first language. The contest is divided into three stages: pre-selections, regional competition and final.
The prizes for the top 15 are a one-week travel abroad and a rhetoric coaching seminar.
During the first competition in 2009/10 over 100 children and young people presented their skills. In the second year 2010/11 more than 250 participants registered and the year after over 300 applicants were counted. During the fourth competition in 2012/13 over 400 talented young people were part of “SAG’S MULTI!”.
The application phase for the competition 2013/14 ends on 4 November 2013.
