WIMMER’S QUARTERLY
Outland, the arts and social change
The holiday season is over, and back on our office desks we are trying to get organized. Some travel experiences however are lasting and make me reflect upon questions and insights I cannot forget and do not want to forget.
A contract of EDUCULT with the Open Society Foundations (OSF) by financial investor George Soros has brought me to Central Asia – a part of the world, I have to admit it self-ashamedly, I have hardly ever noticed before. Our task was the evaluation of the Arts & Culture Program of OSF. By this, we had the chance to talk to a number of artists and learned what it means to create art in this region and to invite local people to engage with the arts.
EDUCULT IN ACTION
Open Office 2012
Come and celebrate with us the venia legendi (habilitation) of EDUCULTs´ director Michael Wimmer acquired for cultural policy research at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. Everyone is invited to our office on 18 October.
Evaluation of the on-site consulting teams
The Federal Republic of Germany, represented by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media has chosen EDUCULT for the evaluation of the pilot phase of the project “on-site consultancy to optimize the education work in museums and other cultural institutions”. The on-site consultants have the task of supporting museums and other cultural institutions permanently funded by the Federal Republic of Germany in optimizing their education work according to their own demand. The Federal Academy of Cultural Education Wolfenbüttel is responsible for the project. We are looking forward to working with all parties involved!
Evaluation of the Open Society Foundations’ Arts and Culture Program
The evaluation of the Arts and Culture Program is finished. During the project, we had the chance to meet and interview fascinating people, who are working in arts and cultural projects aimed at fostering societal development – is it in Central Asia, Hungary, or Slovakia. The project left a lasting impression – not only in terms of professional development.
PISA Complementary Survey
What pupils perceive as culture has little to do with their lives. This is one of the major results of our analysis on “How students perceive and use cultural offerings”. The whole text is part of the complementary PISA surveys in Austria which have now been published in a comprehensive volume (in German) at Waxmann.
AEMS – Arts Education Monitoring System
The AEMS project currently investigates the social and economic situation of educators in cultural institutions. As instrument two questionnaires have been developed which will be tested and presented in the national context of the project partners. The aim is to sustainable implement the instrument in several countries, monitoring the development of educators in the cultural sector.
KONNEX – Mentors for young people with migration history
The association Wirtschaft für Integration asked EDUCULT to organise the new project „KONNEX“. Former participants of “SAG’S MULTI!” could apply for the mentoring program. The program aims at sustainably networking with the participants and winners and fostering young talent. An experienced mentor from the economy, politics, media or arts and culture accompanies the mentee over one year.
“SAG’S MULTI!” 2012/13
Since 2009/10 EDUCULT and Wirtschaft für Integration organise the multilingual rhetoric contest “Sag’s Multi!”. About 300 pupils with migration background mix their fist language and German each year. They had to convince the professional jury about their language skills and content about several topics. Till 11 November youth with a multi lingual background from all over Austria are called to register
Salon of Cultures – Interferencias 2012
