Elena studied biology at the Universidad de los Andes in Bogota, Colombia and completed her PhD at the University of Vienna in the fields of comparative genomics and cuttlefish biology.
She has been working as a science mediator at the Natural History Museum (NHM) Vienna since 2020 and has been collaborating on the Sparkling Science project “Colonialism today? What does this have to do with me”, a Citizen Science project by EDUCULT, which examines the current consequences of colonialism on the reality of young people’s lives in Vienna and the museum practice of the NHM.
Elena has been part of the EDUCULT research and advisory team since 2023.
