Evaluation & Impact Research

Art and culture drive social transformation. Through our evaluations of programmes, projects, organisations, and funding systems, we make impacts and changes visible. This is one of our core competencies – we approach it as a dialogue-based reflection and a respectful, critical accompaniment.

To develop suitable concepts for evaluation questions and surveys, we engage intensively and transdisciplinarily with the respective subject of evaluation. Through formats such as goal-setting and validation workshops, we actively involve clients and stakeholders, ensuring a close connection to practice. Our presentation of results is clear, vivid, and application-oriented, featuring examples of change processes, indicator-based impact reports, and forward-looking recommendations for further development.

Forms

Formative Evaluation:

When supporting programmes, projects, and organisations, we facilitate a learning and development-oriented process based on continuous data collection and analysis. This provides our clients with knowledge that is relevant for management purposes.

Summative Evaluation:

The final evaluation provides clients, participants, and stakeholders with a comprehensive review of what has been achieved and the extent to which goals have been met.

Participatory Approaches:

Through dialogue-based and co-creative approaches, we enable participation and active involvement in the evaluation process. Participants contribute their knowledge comprehensively, making the evaluation a shared process of learning and change.

Methods

We work with qualitative and quantitative methods – ranging from interviews, focus groups, and participant observation to surveys, document analysis, and comprehensive mixed-method approaches. Our team also has experience in contribution analysis, grounded theorising/situation analysis, phenomenological vignette research, and creative, participatory methods.

The appropriate set of methods is always derived from the evaluation questions and objectives and is jointly determined during the contract clarification meeting and the goal-setting workshop.

(Dis)solutions/(Auf)lösungen – decolonial encounters

The Goethe-Institut's project (Dis)solutions focusses on decolonial encounters in Eastern Europe and Central Asia as regions with a unique postcolonial character. At the centre of the project are residency trips with artists from twelve countries. EDUCULT evaluates the impact and cultural-political significance of the project.

Das Wiener Bildungsversprechen

"Das Wiener Bildungsversprechen" ("Vienna Education Promise") strengthens compulsory schools through school-led development. We evaluated the two-year pilot phase (2022–2024) through comprehensive surveys and providing an evidence-based foundation for the development of an effective education promise.

Evaluation

Politik im Freien Theater

The theatre festival organised every three years by the Federal Agency for Civic Education combines independent theatre with political discourse. We are evaluating the outreach format and conducting a visitor survey to identify its impact and potential for future editions.
