Eva Yurková:
Born in 1996 in Svitavy, Czech Republic. Currently living in Vienna, studying printmaking under Jan Svenungsson at the University of Applied Arts, Vienna. Eva Yurková’s work centers on the appropriation of discarded fabrics and clothing in order to explore relations of identity, craft, and the body. Through recycling materials she’s found in the racks of second hand shops, in the corners of attics, or even on the street, she seeks to preserve the aesthetic value of objects that have been rendered useless and thrown away. A floral pattern taken from discarded embroidered cloth, can be cut into linoleum, turned into screenprint, and preserved. A prominent element of her work is the human figure, with which an article of clothing is paired to suggest a semblance of identity. Clothing here does not serve the purpose of shielding human nakedness, but rather accentuates it in order to further interrogate notions of the self.
