Salon der Kulturen: “Kanzleipapier”
The “Kanzleipapier” exhibition invites visitors to explore the often perceived Kafkaesque dimensions of bureaucracy, especially Austrian bureaucracy. Inspired by Franz Kafka, a master of depicting bureaucratic absurdities, the event offers an artistic framework in which the structures and mechanisms of bureaucracy are scrutinized.
Through a variety of artistic forms of expression such as painting, sculpture, installation and performance, the artists Karim Youssef, Helka Ivanyi and Alevtina Lyapunova reflect on the apparent inefficiencies, the adherence to outdated paper processes and the effects of these on people’s everyday lives. A space for critical reflection is created in which the structure and consequences of bureaucratic systems are illuminated.
Curated by Osama Zatar, the exhibition opens up new perspectives on a system that is often perceived as unchangeable and invites visitors to engage in a critical and creative examination of the subject.
