Salon of Cultures: Discussion “Culture and Refuge”
Cultural institutions’ approach to the arrival of refugees five years after 2015
This year’s Salon of Cultures discussion event focuses on how cultural institutions approach the topic of “refuge.” This includes the representation of refugees and artistic portrayal of migration in the cultural sphere in Vienna, as well as the integration and relevance of artists with refugee background to Vienna’s art scene. Together with representatives of cultural institutions; experts from the cultural sphere, cultural politics and academic discourse; (refugee) artists, and guests, EDUCULT wants to consider the importance and role that the increased migration of 2015 plays in diversity of the art and cultural sphere in Vienna.
Important points of discussion include:
- What value does the topic “flight” have for Viennese cultural institutions and which formats developed because of this?
- How are artists with refugee backgrounds represented in cultural institutions?
- What exchange exists between cultural institutions and artists with refugee backgrounds? Do they develop concepts together?
- How much diversity does the Viennese cultural industry really want?
