Salon of Cultures – Culture and Democracy

European Cultural Policy - Past, Present and Future

Abstract:

In his latest book “Kultur und Demokratie” (2011), Michael Wimmer, director of EDUCULT, elaborates on the thesis that the basis of today’s cultural policy in Austria has been laid in the late 19th century. What kind of effects and continuities does the legacy of the Habsburg monarchy create for today’s cultural policy? What kind of new structures and concepts can be developed for the policy field to unfold its potentials for the society as a whole? How do other countries deal with their specific cultural policy past and present?

Michael Wimmer and EDUCULT cordially invite you to a book presentation, followed by a panel discussion with international cultural policy experts.

A brief summary of the book can be found here.
