Sesam
SESAM was developed by Diakonie Bildung and aims to provide primary schools with the know-how to strengthen the cooperation of all those involved in learning and to promote parents’ involvement in their children’s education. With this goal in mind, SESAM supports parents of children starting school so that they can accompany and support their children on their educational path and organises educational offers for parents and teachers, as well as spaces to create regular and constructive exchange.
After a pilot phase, the project was extended to other schools in 2021. EDUCULT accompanied the project in this second phase. The focus of the evaluation was on the impact analysis of the project in order to track which results can be perceived by parents in relation to the support of their children when starting school and which effects can be seen in the cooperation between school and parents.
Within the framework of the analysis, interviews were conducted with school administrators, teachers and parents, as well as participant observations. The analysis examined which formats of knowledge enhancement as well as networking and orientation were offered to the parents through SESAM, how this was accepted by the parents and to what extent the SESAM work could contribute to a positive change in the parents’ relationship with the schools and strengthen the trust between teachers and parents.
